About your music teacher!

Abby Hutchins is a Portland Public School alumni, attending Clifford, King and Portland High Schools. She studied music education & performance at the University of Maine, Orono and graduated from the University of Southern Maine with honors earning her degree in 2001.  She is certified K-12. 

 Abby began teaching in South Portland at Mahoney and Memorial middle schools in 2001. She was then hired at Lyman Moore in 2009 and this begins her 21st year in education.

She is a classically trained vocalist, bringing an extensive knowledge of vocal pedagogy to her students in class and chorus. She also performs professionally in the community and is a composer. Her instruments include piano, violin, clarinet and guitar. 

She lives in Portland with her husband Mike and two children, Lily and Noah, students at Lyman Moore and Portland High Schools.

They love their rescue dog Max,  two cats, Loobie and Shirley and have recently welcomed and raised three hens, Ulga, Ruby and Goldie.  They are anxiously awaiting their first eggs!
