Music Fundamentals

Grade 6 Acadia and Baxter Houses

Week of September 6-10

All music students will have had an orientation and received information about what to expect and what they need to succeed. All students received a music folder. 

I request that students have one notebook for music class. 

Ask your child to show you their music google classroom, which they registered for during our orientation. 

Parents can receive weekly summaries of this classroom by request.

             GRADE 8 ELECTIVES

HOWLS are a crucial part of our music setting, where much of the learning is

listen-observe-demonstrate. There is also a lot of self-directed time when students will be asked to warm-up independently and practice new skills independently.

 RESPONSIBILITY : which encourages students to keep focused and working on expectations.

RESPECT: which is the expectation that we treat the equipment kindly and communicate with our peers and teacher appropriately. 

PERSEVERANCE: trying when our tasks become difficult and frustrating.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD:

Students will be working very hard on completing  performance standards in their chosen elective. Each class will have different standards to complete, as one is stringed based and the other is keyboard based. More details on these standards will be posted on your child's google classroom, of which you can get weekly summaries upon request. 

FUNDAMENTALS STANDARD:

These include, but are not limited to, clef identification, recognizing symbols by name, deciphering sheet music and proper ukulele/keyboard methods.

 TEST RETAKES and CURRICULUM HELP

 

 Students who wish to take an assessment again, or receive extra help, please make arrangements to stay on Mrs. Hutchins' support day,

Students who miss work or are falling behind may be requested to come on this day to ensure their success.
